2SaveEnergy® greenhouse achieves cultivation and energy goals
The 2SaveEnergy® greenhouse concept consists of a combination of a 'standard' greenhouse roof with thereunder an ETFE film in order to achieve a good insulation. In addition, there is also a double screen installation mounted with an air gap distance of only 5 cm.
In 2015, tomato were cultivated in the 2SaveEnergy greenhouse. The production of the breed Cappriccia was 67 kg/m2, which is higher than the stated objective of 63 kg/m2 and even higher than in the practice. The diffuse greenhouse cover will undoubtedly be a part in this result. In general, the cultivation went smoothly without botrytis or any other interferences. Quite striking was the inequality of tomatoes between and within the vines at different times. The cause is unclear and has undoubtedly had some impact on the total production. It is unlikely that this is due to the greenhouse concept.
Saving towards 50%
By having a full year production of tomatoes, it can be concluded that the use of an insulating greenhouse and intensive (double) screen like 2SaveEnergy surely has no negative impact on the production. Even better: this greenhouse and cultivation concept can achieve a energy savings which, relative to the conventional practice, runs up to 50%. However, be sure 13kg of CO2 must be purchased.
