Project STT Bottrop: The world’s largest solar thermic sludge drying greenhouse
In the middle of the German Ruhr region between the smoking chimneys, the finishing touches are currently underway on the world's largest solar thermal sludge drying greenhouse with an acreage of approximately 44,000 m2. The greenhouse consists of 32 climate compartments that can be controlled separately.
The sewage sludge, which comes from all over the region, is dried in the greenhouse and improved to biofuel. This will be used to provide the adjacent sewage treatment plant with clean energy. This way, the entire facility is self-sufficient and operates energy-neutral. The BOAL Systems’ Lumenex® Venlo ISO 22 mm roof system, in combination with ISO 22 mm glass facades on the outside, is suitable for controlling the climate in the drying greenhouse.
A special type of insulating glass will be installed on the deck and facades, which ensures that as little heat as possible will be lost and can be used optimally for the drying process. In the future, solar heat, in combination with residual heat, will emit just under 60,000 tons less CO2.
As a system supplier in this project, BOAL Systems thus contributes to a cleaner world with a better (living) climate!
