Newcomer Bayern München wins 5th edition BOAL International U14 Tournament
In the final played on Sunday, the South Germans took the penalty set just a bit better than their compatriots from Borussia Dortmund. After the final ended in a 1-1 draw, Bayern scored the 7th penalty and won the lottery at the end.
The tournament started on Friday afternoon. The participants from all corners of the world were able to find the Juliana Sportpark and three group matches were played on that day. The first cautious conclusions regarding the mutual balance of strength could already be mentioned.
On Saturday, another 3 poule rounds were played and it became clear which teams had the chance to a high ranking. For example, FC 's-Gravenzande won in group A - as agreed they played with their U15 team - their first points and the Danish Brøndby IF passed leader Bayern München at the end of the day. Ajax played quite disappointing and did not have a chance to reach the final. In group B Borussia Dortmund showed their skills at the first game and PSV followed three points behind. For the regular "BOAL tournament visitors" Chelsea FC and Feyenoord it would be difficult to come closer because of a gap of points.
On Sunday morning the sports park was bathing in a little sunshine; a single round was played. In group A Bayern München qualified for the cross-final by defeating direct competitor Brøndby IF 1-0. PSV and Borussia Dortmund ended equally in points, so they both could play the cross final. By a 1-0 victory of Borussia Dortmund over Brøndby IF, the yellow blacks qualified for the final. Bayern Munich needed penalty kicks in their cross final against PSV, which ended in 1-1, but took it better than the Eindhoven, so there was a 100% German final, with Bayern Munich as the tournament winner. A name that fits well in the list of previous winners of this beautiful tournament: Feyenoord (2014), Chelsea FC (2015), Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2016) and Borussia Dortmund (2017).
Kawasaki Frontale won the Fair Play Trophy, Dawid Radzinski of the Polish Zaglebie Lubin was named best goalkeeper of the tournament and Matteo Schablas of Bayern Munich won the prize for the best player of the tournament.
